"After being told by a well-renowned doctor that my son Hunter had the worst dyslexia he had ever seen, I felt absolutely helpless. My son had also been diagnosed at the University of Houston as a twice-exceptional child, extremely intelligent but challenged with severe dyslexia, dysgraphia, and auditory processing disorder. Sometime later I was introduced to Susan Garrett through a friend. I decided to give her a call, and I’m glad I did! Hunter has been working with Mrs. Garrett now ever since 2005. At one time I thought Hunter would never read, but, thanks to Mrs. Garrett, he just read not only his first book, The Lightening Thief by Rick Riordon, but also the entire series of books by the author. Hunter is presently taking algebra with Mrs. Garrett and has taken piano and voice lessons from her. Thanks to her passion, patience, and skills with students like Hunter, he is now able to enjoy reading as well as his real passion, music. I like to refer fondly to Mrs. Garrett as Hunter’s own Annie Sullivan."

About Us
Noteable Lessons
piano lessons, tutoring in reading & math, geography
"In 2004 we met Susan Garrett at a homeschool co-op where she taught music class.  We were new to the area and needed a piano teacher.  We had two previous piano teachers and they were all right.  My daughter absolutely soared with Susan's teaching.  Never have we had such an encouraging teacher.  My daughter enjoyed piano with the other teachers, but really loved piano once she began to feel praised for her hard work.  It has kept her in piano for all these years and I am not sure if she would have stayed in with another teacher.

"Then came my second daughter.  She was a very late reader and horrible speller. When she was ten, I finally asked Susan to test her.  She is not truly dyslexic, but has mild reversals that made things hard for her.  Again, after two years of tutoring, through Susan's constant encouragement, she could read anything she wanted.  She never felt like she didn't measure up.  Susan always made her feel like she was very smart, which was, again, so important.

"Daughter three has some of the same problems as our second.  I have started her earlier in reading comprehension and spelling.  She is ten now, and we have seen remarkable progress in the last one and a half years.  Even though she is in a class setting, she can be herself and not worry about the other kids.

"Susan has been like an angel to this homeschool family.  She has always been an encouragement to each of us to stay the course."
