Biography

Susan H. Garrett earned her bachelor's degree in music education, with concentrations in both piano and voice, from Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. Upon her graduation, she taught public school music in Meridian, MS and Pascagoula, MS, for several years.

After taking a year off from teaching and working in the public sector, she attended the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS, where she earned her master's degree in special education with a specialization in learning disabilities/dyslexia. After graduation, she taught special education in Augusta, GA, but returned to Pascagoula, MS, where she taught special education at Jackson and Cherokee Elementary Schools for several years. Her last two years in the Pascagoula Municipal Separate School District, she served as a district-wide special education teacher consultant and assistant to the Director of Special Education.

After her marriage to John Garrett, she and her husband moved to Spring, TX. In Spring she taught at Ponderosa Elementary School for a couple of yours until she and her husband welcomed their first child into their lives, at which time she became a full-time mom.

Garrett is a 38-year veteran piano teacher. Although she no longer teaches voice lessons, she also taught voice for several years. In addition to her music teaching, she homeschooled her own children grades K-12. She has tutored students in math and reading for many years as well, drawing from her training in learning disabilities/dyslexia. Parents soon discovered that she had a God-given gift of teaching this type student. She has, in fact, tutored students whom professionals have said would never learn to read, but she taught them to read and read well. She has had similar success with math students as well.

In 2008 Garrett affiliated her teaching with HIS Classes in Tomball/Hockley and The Woodlands. In addition to tutoring and teaching piano with HIS Classes, she has also added high school courses in world geography, Algebra I, Algebra II, and geometry to her repertoire.
